WhatsApp Business API

Official WhatsApp Business API,live in 24 hours

Access through Meta's official signup, plus an agent that actually does something with it.

The WhatsApp Business API is Meta's official route for businesses to send and receive WhatsApp messages at scale, with no device limit, full team access on one number, and support for automation and integrations. It charges per 24-hour conversation rather than per message. You access it through an approved provider — 3xRetention connects you through Meta's Embedded Signup, usually within 24 hours, with no developer required.

Access

How to get API access

Five steps. Most businesses already have the first, and you can start answering customers before the third is finished.

  1. A Facebook Business Manager account

Free to create. Most businesses that have run any Meta ads already have one.

    15 minutes if new01/05
  2. A phone number not on the Business App

Either a fresh number, or migrate your existing one off the App.

Instant, or a day to migrate02/05
  3. Business verification with Meta

Business registration document, GST certificate or equivalent, and a matching website and address.

    1–3 days, done by Meta03/05
  4. Connect through Embedded Signup

Done inside 3xRetention. You approve permissions and it connects.

    10 minutes04/05
  5. Template approval

Your first message templates submitted to Meta for review.

    Minutes to 24 hours05/05

You can start answering customers as soon as the number connects. Business verification runs in parallel and only limits your messaging volume until it completes.

Key concepts

Four things you
have to understand

The rules Meta sets for every business on the API. Each one changes what you can send, when, and what it costs.

When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens in which you can reply freely with any content. Outside that window you can only send an approved template. This is why retention flows need a pre-approved template library — without one, your follow-up cannot fire when it needs to.

  • Free-form inside 24 hours
  • Templates outside it

Meta bills per 24-hour conversation, in four categories. Marketing is the most expensive. Utility covers order updates and payment reminders. Authentication covers OTPs. Service conversations — those started by the customer — are cheapest and come with a monthly free allowance. Categorising correctly is one of the largest levers on your bill.

  • Marketing
  • Utility
  • Authentication
  • Service

Any message sent outside the 24-hour window must use a template pre-approved by Meta. Templates can carry variables, buttons and media. Approval usually takes minutes but can take a day, and templates get rejected for promotional language in a utility template, for vague variables, and for missing opt-out language.

  • Variables
  • Buttons
  • Media

Meta scores your number as High, Medium or Low based on how customers react. Your tier — 250, 1,000, 10,000 or unlimited unique customers per day — rises with good quality and volume, and falls with blocks and reports. A number in Low quality gets restricted before it gets banned.

  • High
  • Medium
  • Low
Choosing a provider

What to ask any API provider

Every provider gives you the same underlying Meta API. What differs is what sits on top, and what they charge for the messages.

Five questions to ask any WhatsApp Business API provider, why each matters, and 3xRetention's answer
Ask thisWhy it mattersOur answer
Do you mark up Meta's conversation charges? Many providers add 15–40% on top of Meta's rate and do not disclose it. At volume this dwarfs the platform fee.No markup. Meta's rate is passed through at cost and shown separately on your invoice.
Is this the official API or a linked-device workaround?Unofficial tools risk permanent bans. Some products in this market do not make this clear.Official Business API via Meta Embedded Signup. Always.
Who owns the WhatsApp Business Account? If the provider owns it, moving away means losing your number, templates and history. You do. You can take it to another provider whenever you want.
What happens to my data if I leave? Some providers make export difficult.Full export of contacts, conversations and orders, on demand, in CSV.
Is there a minimum contract?Annual lock-ins are common and are usually a sign the product does not retain on merit.Monthly. Leave whenever you want.
Questions

Questions about the Business API

The API itself has no licence fee, but Meta charges per 24-hour conversation and you need a provider to access it. In India, marketing conversations cost around ₹0.86 and utility, authentication and service conversations around ₹0.115, plus GST. Providers add a platform fee on top, and some also mark up Meta's charges — ask before you sign.

Connecting a number takes about ten minutes through Embedded Signup. Meta's business verification takes one to three days and runs in parallel, so you can start answering customers before it completes. It only limits your messaging volume in the meantime.

Technically yes, but you should not. Moving a number to the API means it can no longer be used in the normal WhatsApp app on your phone. Use a business number, or a new number bought for the purpose.

A 24-hour session between you and one customer. Every message inside those 24 hours is covered by a single charge, however many are sent. A new conversation starts at the next message after the window closes, and the category of the message that opens it determines the price.

Not with us. Everything is done through a browser. If you want to build directly against Meta's API yourself then yes, you need engineering — that is what most businesses are avoiding when they choose a provider.

Yes. You own your WhatsApp Business Account, so you can move your number and your templates elsewhere. Some providers make this deliberately painful — ask about it before you commit, not after.

Pick a time that works. Share a catalogue, price list or website link when you book and we load it into the agent before we speak.

  1. Before the call

You send a catalogue, price list or website link. We set the agent up on it.

  2. On the call · 30 min

You ask it the questions your customers actually ask. We show you the segments and follow-ups it would run.
